The Ol' Ball Game

Summer is here, and that mean baseball is back. During your visit to Myrtle Beach, be sure to spend a night at the ballpark watching good old fashioned Carolina League baseball, which dates back to WWII and has produced major leaguers Wade Boggs, Daryl Strawberry, Barry Bonds, and Chipper Jones. Myrtle Beach is home to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, a class A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.

In June, the Pelicans have 12 home games. The Pelicans host the Potomac Nationals June 4 - June 7, the Frederick Keys June 13th - 15th, and the Carolina Mudcats June 23rd - June 26th. June 5th is Kids Summer Kick-off night, when kids have the chance to win hoverboards, video games, and other great giveaways. June 15th is the food drive -- bring two canned goods and receive a voucher for a free hot dog and soda. On June 23rd & June 25th, the Pelicans hosts its Father's Day promotion. The purchase of four tickets includes two free beers.

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans play at TicketReturn.com Field, a ten minute drive from the Sun & Sand. TicketReturn.com Field offers the major league experience. This family-friendly stadium offers a Speed Pitch, Obstacle Course, and Moon Bounce on the concourse. Stadium Journey ranked the park as the best stadium experience in the Carolina League.

Finally, here's a fun fact: Do you remember Bull Durham, the 1988 film starring Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon? Costner's character played for the Durham Bulls. That was a real team, until 1997, when the team moved to from Durham to Myrtle Beach and changed its name to -- you guessed it -- the Pelicans!
