Motown: The Making of America

Motown.jpg

Few words conjure up visions of quintessential Americana as vividly as Motown. A portmanteau of motor and town, this moniker applies not only to Detroit of the 1960s and 70s, but also to GTS Theater at Myrtle Beach, where you can catch the Motor City Musical – Motown Tribute Show four days a week year-round. Join the cast at this intimate cabaret style theater, and take a trip back to 1958 when Berry Gordy founded the first African-American owned record label. More than just a music label though, Motown was a social movement, a soulful cry that broke down barriers and defined an era. You’ll get to live (or re-live) the history of this movement’s progress as you sway and sing along with the hits of Diana Ross, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Temptations, Jackson 5, Aretha Franklin, and many more artists who helped make music and America great.
