Conway, SC: A Delightful Daytrip Destination

About a half-hour’s drive inland from the Sun & Sand Resort lies the town of Conway, one of our favorite day trip destinations. This quirky spot on the banks of the Waccamaw River (so named for the native Americans who once inhabited the region) is like a cross between Mayberry and Savannah, and it’s only a matter of time before some major film catapults it to nationwide fame. You’ll find a charming boardwalk, mom-and-pop restaurants, trendy boutiques, and many beautiful historic buildings. If you’re a fan of farmers markets, you’ll want to visit on a Saturday between 8 A.M. and 1 P.M. when 217 Laurel Street will be filled with vendors offering up the Low Country’s finest locally-sourced fruits and vegetables, baked goods, meats, and cheeses. Area artists and artisans specializing in everything from woodwork, to ceramics, to handmade jewelry, and more also like to setup shop. Once you’ve had your fill of this quaint little southern town, head back to the Sun & Sand to enjoy an evening cocktail by the sea.
